What is Boring in the Browser (Web Dashboard)?
The Boring Web Dashboard is all about accessibility. We have moved much of the insights you love from our Boring client local dashboard, added some great new proactive features, and made it easy to log in and share.
While transitioning from the thick client to Boring in the browser, the browser application will be in early access. This means you will have both the thick client and the web browser for a period of time.
What does it do?
The Boring web dashboard presents insights into your Milestone XProtect VMS in an easily accessible web application that is installed on-premise—no internet access is needed!
Why should you use Boring in the Browser?
The Boring Toolbox is awesome at providing clear and actionable insights in the form of our local dashboard. However, having those insights in a thick, Windows-installable client makes it a bit hard to share the data.
Boring in the browser solves this problem with our first release preview of the web dashboard. Rebuilt to live in a web browser, it is now easier than ever to send a URL and share the insights with your team members - all they need is a modern browser and an XProtect login.
How to use the web dashboard
While the web dashboard lives in your browser, it does not mean it lives in the cloud. The Boring web dashboard is installed on your Milestone XProtect management server and can function fully offline.
Installation
The web dashboard will be installed along with the Boring Server, and you do not need to configure anything else to start taking advantage of this great new platform.
SSL Certificate
A self-signed SSL certificate will be used by default, but you can add your own SSL certificate so that you do not need to see the error on the login screen.
- Log into the management server
- Run IIS Manager
- In the navigation tree click sites > Default Website
- Select the icon labeled SSL Settings
- On the left navigation, under Edit Site, click Bindings...
- Highlight the entry for https
- Click Edit
- Select the SSL certificate from the dropdown labeled SSL Certificate
- Click OK
Logging in
To log into the web dashboard browser to the URL below and login with your Milestone XProtect credentials.
- Open you favorite modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
- add.ress = IP address or DNS name of your management server
- Select your authentication type
- Windows Authentication
- Basic Authentication
- Enter your credentials
- Select if you would like to remain signed in
- Click Login
*Note: To use integrated Windows Authentication (current user), you should launch the Boring Toolbox and click "Connect to Web."
The Dashboard
Like our current local dashboard on the Boring Toolbox, we worked hard to present the insights and data you need in a clean and easy-to-understand way.
