Changing How Long Previously Generated Reports Are Kept (Default: 180 Days)

Purpose

This procedure updates the CleanUp > RetentionWindow setting in the Service Host configuration so reports older than 30 days are automatically removed instead of 180 days.

Step 1: Open Notepad as Administrator

1. Click Start

2. Type Notepad

3. Right-click Notepad

4. Select Run as administrator

5. Click Yes if prompted by UAC

Running Notepad as administrator is required to edit files under Program Files.

Step 2: Open the appsettings.json File

1. In Notepad, click File → Open

2. Navigate to the Boring Server Complete Installation path. 
   The default installation path is below.

C:\Program Files\The Boring Lab\Service Host\

3. Change the file filter from Text Documents (*.txt) to All Files

4. Select appsettings.json

5. Click Open

Step 3: Locate the CleanUp Section

Scroll down to the ReportRuns section and find:

  "RetentionWindow": "180.00:00:00"
}

Step 4: Update the RetentionWindow Value

Change the value from 180 days to 30 days:

"RetentionWindow": "30.00:00:00"

Format is days.hours:minutes:seconds

Step 5: Save the File

1. Click File → Save

2. Close Notepad

Step 6: Restart the Boring Service Host

For the change to take effect:

1. Open Services

2. Restart Boring Service Host
