What is Live Monitoring Service?

Live Monitoring Service (LMS) is a Windows service that provides 24/7 monitoring of your Milestone XProtect video management system. It continuously tracks the status of camera video streams and recording servers, alerting you to issues through customizable notifications.

How Does LMS Work?

LMS integrates directly with the Milestone XProtect Event Server to monitor system health. When LMS detects a camera not providing video or a recording server going offline, it processes this information through several stages:

• Event Detection: LMS receives status updates from the Milestone XProtect Event Server
• Threshold Application: When an issue is detected, LMS holds the notification for a user-defined period (threshold) to reduce false positives
• Notification Processing: Depending on your configuration, LMS either:
  • Sends individual notifications for each event
  • Uses Smart Notifications to bundle related issues together (recommended)
• Resolution Tracking: LMS continues monitoring and sends follow-up notifications when issues are resolved

Important: A stable connection to the Milestone Event Server is essential for LMS to work properly. Please ensure the Milestone Event Server is stable and correctly configured for network communication.

Installation and Setup

LMS is bundled with the Boring Server installer and is automatically installed when you install or update the Boring Toolbox server component. The service is configured to start automatically with Windows.
