Best practice for installing Milestone XProtect Advanced VMS products (C-code) is to use a service user account which will be used to run the Milestone services and IIS application pools. If you changed the password for this service account both Milestone and Boring Labs API will cease to function. To get them both back on line you will need to do the following:
Milestone has a KB article that lists out all the different places you will need to update with the new password. Here we will discuss updating the windows service passwords as well as the IIS app pools for both Milestone and Boring Toolbox.
Milestone Windows services
Per the KB article referenced above you will need to update the following Milestone Windows services.
- Milestone XProtect Recording Server service
- Milestone XProtect Management Server service
- Milestone XProtect Event Server service
- Milestone XProtect Data Collector service
To change the logon users password for each of these services following the below procedure:
- Windows Start Menu
- Search for services.msc
- In the Services console, find the services listed above
- Shutdown all Milestone XProtect Windows services
- Once shut down, double click on each of the services one by one and do the following
- Click the Logon Tab
- Paste the new password into the two password fields
- Click Apply
- Restart the service
Milestone & Boring IIS Application Pools
Per the KB article referenced above you will need to update the following IIS Application Pools as well as one additional Boring Lab App Pool
- BoringLabService AppPool
- VideoOS LogServer AppPool
- VideoOS Management Server AppPool
- VideoOS ReportServer AppPool
- VideoOS ServiceChannel AppPool
To change the logon users password for each of these Application Pools perform the procedure below:
- Window Start menu
- Search for "IIS" and select Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
- Once in the IIS Manager, expand the top item in the tree which will be labeled with the computer name
- Select Application Pools underneath that
- On the right pane of the manager you will now see the different application pools
- Select the Application Pool
- On the right Actions menu click Advanced Settings
- Under Advanced Settings, find the Process Model heading and select Identity
- Click the three dots (...) next to the username
- In the Application Pool Identity pop up, click Set...
- Type in the username and the new password twice
- Click OK until you are back at the IIS Manager
- With the Application Pool still selected, click Recycle in the Actions menu to the right
- Repeat for each Application Pool listed above
